What To Do After An Accident

If you have been involved in a motor vehicle accident you will need to call your insurance company and file a report right away. Tell them you were in an accident and let them know that you were injured. Often, individulas involved in motor vehicle accidents experience minimal or no symptoms for the first weeks and even months. After reporting the accident and injuries you sustained you will be given a claim number. Once you have the claim number call the Oregon Wellness Center right away! It is important to not only receive immediate and appropriate treatment for any injuries sustained, but also to document the extent of the injuries, if present.

Failure to obtain a timely evaluation or appropriate treatment for injures sustained in a motor vehicle accident may negate your ability to receive monetary compensation for any future medical bills resulting from the accident, negate your ability to receive pain and suffering settlements, and negate compensation for work loss.

Here are a few tips regarding your claim:

  • You DO NOT NEED A REFERRAL from your medical doctor to seek treatment from a Chiropractor.
  • Your claim always goes through your own auto insurance, even if you were not at fault. Your insurance company will then go after whom is at fault.
  • Your claim can stay open for up to 1 year.
  • If you reported not being injured at first, you can always re-open your claim.
  • If you want MASSAGE therapy it WILL BE COVERED by your auto insurance. All you need is a referral from your chiropractor.
  • DO NOT SETTLE. As soon as you settle your case you will no longer be able to use your auto insurance for medical bills related to your auto injuries.

When you come in we will determine:

  • the extent of the injury or injuries
  • if special tests are required (x-ray,MRI, CT Scan, etc.)
  • if a referral to another medical specialist is necessary
  • if a referral to an attorney is necessary
  • if you need to take "injury time off" from work (and provide you with a note to present to your empoloyer)
  • the appropriate treatment plan and schedule that best suits your injury or injuries

According to the Insurance Research Council, nearly 1/3 of all claimants injured in motor vehicle accidents (MVA's) seek treatement from doctors of chiropractic. This is an impressive number given that the National Safety Council (NSC) has determined there to be more than 12 million MVA's annually involvinmg more than 20 million vehicles.

The reason idividuals like yourself choose chiropractic care for treatment of injuries sustained in MVA's is simple chiropractic care is exceptional in the treatment of soft tiddue injuries, especially of the spine. Since the most common injuries associated with MVA's are sprains and strains of the spinal muscles and ligaments, it's only natural that chiropractic be the treatment of choice.

Many studies have also found individuals injured in MVA's prefer chiropractic care for the treatment of their injuries. One such study evaluated 190 whiplash injury victims and found those who received chiropractic care reported treatment satisfaction of 100%.
