Are Chiropractors doctors?

Yes, chiropractors are considered doctors. Chiropractors receive their academic doctorate degree of "Doctor of Chiropractic".

Is Chiropractic covered by insurance?

Doctors of chiropractic are covered by most major medical insurance companies in Oregon, including auto insurance, workers compensation, Medicare, some Medicaid plans, and Blue Cross Blue Sheild plans for federal employees, among others. Our staff is happy to check your benefits for you and see of you are covered.

Do I need a referral from my medical doctor?

A referral from your primary care physician or medical doctor is usually not needed, however, your plan may have specific referral requirements. Our staff is happy to check on your benefits to see if your individual plan requires a referral.

How many appointments are required?

The numbar of appointments or visits required is different for each individual patient varies widely for each condition. Chiropractic is a hands-on treatment which requires the patient to be seen in the office. This is essentially what requires patients to be seen a numbar of times. In contrast, a course of treatment from medical doctors often involves a pre-established plan that is conducted at home (i.e. taking a course of antibiotis 2 times per week for a couple of weeks). Your chiropractor should tell you the extent of treatment recommended and long you can expect it to last.

Can Doctors of Chiropractic prescribe medication?

Currently doctors of chiropractic do not have prescription privileges in Oregon. New Mexico is the only state with limited prescription privileges.

Does Chiropractic treatment hurt?

The treatments themselves are generally not painful. In fact, most patients look forward to their treatment. Individuals who present with moderate to severe pain may experience some minor discomfort for obvious reasons, however, care is always gentle, safe and noninvasive.

Is Chiropractic safe for children?

Yes, chiropractic treatment is safe and beneficial for children of all ages. In fact, Dr. McLagan has been treating his children since they were babies. Children are very physically active and experience many types of falls and blows from daily activities as well as from participating in sports. Injuries such as these may cause many symptoms including neck and back pain, stiffness, soreness or discomfort. Chiropractic care is always adapted to the individual patient. It is a highly skilled treatment, and in the case of children, very gentle.

Why is their a popping sound heard/felt during an adjustment?

An adjustment or manipulation of the joint may result in a popping sound felt or heard (or both). When an adjustment is performed it may result in the release of gas from in the joint. The same occurs when you "crack" your knuckles. The noise is caused by a change in pressure within the joint causing the release of gas. There is usually minimal, if any, discomfort involved.
